On 16, Jan 2013 | In Exhibitions | By tfdcadmin

This February and March, The Fridge will exhibit two exceptional shows. The first is Lisa Marie Thalhammer’s Intimate Network. Lisa Marie is a self-identified queer artist, her show will focus on themes such as marriage equality and gender identity. In March, we’ll show HELLO my name is, a 70 artist international graffiti show.

The Fridge Presents Lisa Marie Thalhammer’s Intimate Network
February 2 – 24, 2013
Opening Reception Saturday, February 2, 7 – 10pm
Artist Talk and Live Mural Painting February 16, 12 – 2pm

The art in Lisa Marie Thalhammer’s Intimate Network prompts an examination of intimacy and relationships. The artist chooses to paint people from her life that unravel the boundaries between the personal and political. Lisa Marie lives openly as a queer individual, and her work documents her networks of chosen family and friends within the LGBTQ community. The subjects assert ideas about civil rights, marriage equality, polyamory and gender identity while also disclosing a profoundly private look at the inner workings of the artist’s life today.

The Fridge Presents HELLO my name is
March 2 – 31, 2013
Opening Reception: March 2, 7 – 11pm
Workshop: March 10, 1 – 3pm
Exhibit Book Launch and Panel Discussion: March 23, 1 – 3pm

HELLO my name is will showcase the foundation of modern graffiti: the name. Seventy artists from across North and South America will interpret their graffiti name in their own distinct voice. Each artist will receive a canvas with a “HELLO my name is” sticker printed on it. Artists will mail and bring their canvasses back to The Fridge gallery with their original artwork inspired by their graffiti name. The result will be a body of work that is a snapshot of new and legendary graffiti artists working across the Americas.

This show is curated by old school DC legend ULTRA along with CHE KGB. The exhibit is slated to feature graffiti artists such as CAB, EVOL, JASE, CYCLE, RAIN, CAST, LOST, AREK, MODE, SCOTCH, SOVIET, AERA, JAZI, HKS 181, CON, CHE, ULTRA, HUF, REI 21, ENVY, and DECOY.
